I love the nutty, natural sweetness of hemp seeds; you honestly can’t beat their nutritional profile, either! They’re loaded with healthy fatty and amino acids, protein and fiber. While I usually just sprinkle some onto Greek yogurt or into smoothies, this hot cereal is a great way to integrate them into a healthy breakfast.

The nut butter adds both texture and flavor here, but you could easily substitute sunflower seed butter if you’re nut-free. I like to top off my cereal with some sliced bananas, but the sky is the limit. If you have a sweet tooth, a little pure maple syrup is a delicious finishing touch.

Hemp Seed Hot Cereal

1 cup unsweetened non-dairy milk of choice (I like to use unsweetened vanilla almond milk)
1/4 cup hulled hemp seeds, divided
1 tbs. ground flaxseed
1 tbs. raw almond butter (sub sunflower seed butter for nut-free)
ground cinnamon
toppings of choice: maple syrup or honey, sliced bananas, slivered almonds

Bring milk to a simmer in a small pot over low heat. Add half of the ground hemp and flax seeds, and continue to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove from heat and stir in remaining seeds along with nut butter and a bit of ground cinnamon. Top as desired (definitely include some maple syrup or honey if you want a sweet cereal).
